Calculating service price
Your service total is calculated by travel fee plus applicable notarial acts. To get a simple estimate, the number of notarial acts often coincides with the number of signers (including any witnesses) multiplied by the number of documents.
Quick Price Estimates
Durable Power of Attorney: $10 to $40, often $30. Based on a Principal signer ($10), two witnesses ($10 each), and acceptance by the appointed Attorney-in-Fact ($10).
Advance Healthcare Directive: $10 to $40, often $10. Based on a Principal signer ($10), two witnesses ($10 each), and acceptance by the appointed Healthcare Representative ($10).
The complex answer:
The number of notarial acts is not the number of stamped notarial certificates. The number of notarial acts depends on the language and quantity of notarial certificates. Each certificate may name multiple act participants, which would each be a single act.
State of Oregon
County of Multnomah
Signed or attested before me on (date) by John Doe.
(Notary signature and stamp)
The example above demonstrates one notarial act. There is one participant named (John Doe) on the certificate.
State of Oregon
County of Multnomah
Signed or attested before me on (date) by John Doe, the Principal, and witnesses Bob Smith and Jane Marks.
(Notary signature and stamp)
The example above demonstrates three notarial acts. There are three participants named (John Doe, Bob Smith and Jane Marks) on the certificate. Each participant would need to be present, provide government-issued ID and sign an entry in the Notary's journal.
Why not just go by number of stamps?
Each notarial act is an individual instance of the Notary Public attesting to the identity and capacity of the participant, where the Notary Public is incurring judicial risk over the course of the next seven to ten years.
